- About this Project

This project consists of a collection of digital paintings generated through p5.js, where the artist's physical gesture is captured by a motion sensor and translated into visual marks on the screen. Unlike purely algorithmic approaches, these works result from direct interaction between the artist's body and the digital system, establishing a bridge between traditional gestural painting expression and the possibilities of creative programming. Arm movement becomes code in real time, transforming the physicality of gesture into a visual language that preserves the spontaneity and energy of the act of painting, while benefiting from the generative capabilities of the digital medium.

The chromatic palette of these compositions is not randomly determined by the code, but derives from bitmap images previously selected and associated with the program. This process establishes a dialectical relationship between control and improvisation: although the artist does not individually choose each color during execution, the prior selection of the source image defines a specific chromatic universe that aesthetically guides the final result. Colors are dynamically extracted as the gesture unfolds, creating harmonies and contrasts that simultaneously reflect the intentionality of the chosen palette and the unpredictability of bodily movement. This methodology evidences a hybrid approach, where programming does not replace artistic decision-making, but amplifies its expressive possibilities. The abstract and non-figurative character of these paintings reinforces the primacy of gesture and color as autonomous elements, devoid of representational function. The compositions reveal a visual density constructed through the overlapping of gestural layers, where thick lines and organic forms intertwine in a dynamic pictorial space. The absence of figurative referents directs attention to the formal qualities of the work: the rhythm of digital brushstrokes, the tension between areas of greater and lesser chromatic saturation, and the kinetic energy inscribed in each stroke. These paintings manifest an investigation into the boundaries between analog and digital, questioning where human gesture ends and code interpretation begins, proposing a new way of thinking about authorship and expression in technology-mediated contemporary art.
